Cyprus is steeped in history and mythology, and island with great scenic beauty, long sandy beaches, rocky coves and a variety of small villages and fascinating towns, each with something different to offer. For a more relaxed pace, the smaller resort towns like Coral Bay and Protaras let you do as much or as little as you like. While the charming coastal villages such as Polis, Pissouri and Peyia remain pleasingly out of touch with the pressures of the modern age. There is also a fascinating harbour town of Paphos, which has an enticing blend of the old and the new and the gateway to some of the most beautiful stretches of coastline on the island. It offers both luxury resorts and ancient ruins such as the nearby ruined city of Amathus.
Cyprus could be classed as a golfers paradise as it offers starting from the west with three challenging courses perfect for all-year-round golf. Tsada Golf Course, set in the grounds of a 12th century monastery in the foothills of the Troodos mountains. East of Paphos and lying in a scenic valley, you'll find the aptly-named Secret Valley Golf Club. The outstanding course at Aphrodite Hills, carved out of a forest of carob and olive trees on two high plateaux overlooking the Mediterranean.
